Pricing

I price my existing and commission artwork to cover time and materials, and like most emerging artists the overall dimension sets the final price. I make all my large canvases above 12 in x 12 in. My materials include kiln-dried wood for stretcher bars, linen canvas, gesso, hanging hardware, as well as paints and various liquid media and any protective finishes.

Generally, due to economies of scale, the larger the canvas the lower the price per square inch. Though, with a few caveats. Pricing will be higher for unusually sized or very large canvases because they require additional framing for dimensional stability. Non-standard finishes and/or extra framing will add to the price. And, finally, my commissioned work will usually include pricing for 2-3 color studies and 2 smaller-scale mock-ups before the final work, so if a client requires a variation from this pricing will differ.

Some typical prices below, and please bear in mind that there is always a degree of variation based on the complexity of the piece, construction of the canvas, number of iterations for a commission and the quantity of paint.
